In Weymouth, we have a huge variety of low-cost activities, so you can make the most out of your holiday without costing the earth. Check out some of our favourite things to do while on a cheap holiday in Weymouth!
There are so many beautiful sights to see in Weymouth, Portland and beyond and you can access walking guides for free online. The South West Coast Path website is a great online resource with a ‘walk finder’ so that you can find the type of walk that suits you, based on your level of difficulty, length and theme! Walking is the perfect activity for a cheap holiday in Weymouth as it is completely free, and lets you be independent on your stay while you explore one of Dorset’s best-loved towns.
If you prefer a more low-key walk in Weymouth centre, there are some great sites to visit that are completely free of charge such, such as Weymouth Old Harbour and Hope Square, Greenhill Gardens and The Nothe Gardens. You could take in the sea air and panoramic views with a walk along Weymouth’s beautiful Esplanade towards Bowleaze Cove.

Weymouth and Portland Heritage
Being on the spectacular Jurassic Coast, there are plenty of historic sites that are not to be missed. From Museums to Castles, there really is something for everyone. Why not visit Weymouth Museum, based in the Brewers Quay building at Hope Square and find out about Weymouth’s fascinating history then head just around the corner to Tudor House in Trinity Street, one of the UK’s best-preserved Tudor buildings.

Wildlife and Geology
Just a short walk from the town centre you’ll find RSPB Weymouth Wetlands, the perfect place for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. Not only can you enjoy a walk amongst the stunning wetlands, but they also have a lovely little visitor centre with panoramic windows over Radipole Lake. The visitor centre often runs groups and activities.
The Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre along Portland Beach Road is a great place to visit to learn about the landscape and the wildlife that reside within it. It’s perfect for all ages with plenty of ‘hands on’ discovery for children, a lovely café and a small gift shop. The Centre is run by Dorset Wildlife Trust along with the help of local volunteers. There’s a bridge from the Centre, across the lagoon and directly onto the beach so you’re literally a stone’s throw away!
Just outside of Weymouth Town Centre you’ll find Lodmoor Country Park, a lovely outside space that includes a children’s play park, walking trail, outdoor fitness equipment and a miniature train that does a circular route around the park in the summer months. The park is often host to music, charity, sports events but it’s also the perfect spot for a picnic.
Wildlife activities are a perfect option for a cheap holiday in Weymouth, so you can truly relax and get back to nature.

There’s always something happening in Weymouth, whether it’s live music, a food festival or sporting event, it’s always worth checking our events guide so that you don’t miss out. A great way to spot historic landmarks (that you may not have seen before) whilst keeping the whole family entertained is by taking part in a treasure hunt or murder mystery trail. There are some great kits available online including the official Treasure Trails website – the trails take a couple of hours to complete and cost around £10 and there are various themes to choose from, making for the perfect thing to do during a cheap holiday in Weymouth.
