In Weymouth windsurfing is big news. Following on from the 2012 Olympics, Portland Harbour is now officially a world-class windsurfing venue.
Weymouth windsurfing has really taken off since the London 2012 Olympic Sailing Events, when local windsurfer Nick Dempsey won silver. And Portland Harbour is now officially a world-class windsurfing venue where you too can windsurf on the ideal sheltered, shallow waters. There are several watersports companies around Weymouth and Portland, providing everything from taster sessions for beginners to essential kit for world-class athletes to practice.
So you’ll be in good company! In fact, if you train at the OTC Windsurfing Centre, you are in part of the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy which boasts an impressive membership, including Olympic and world class sailors.
Or, if you prefer, why not take a picnic to the Causeway which connects the Isle of Portland to the mainland, and sit on Chesil Beach, watching the expert (and not so expert) windsurfers and kitesurfers.
