Family Fun in Weymouth

Weymouth was made for families. Keep kids happy for hours with the wide range of family activities in Weymouth, ranging from crabbing to Punch ‘n’ Judy, from Laserzone to visiting the Swannery. There are so many places to visit in Weymouth with the family, it’s hard to know where to start! With one of the safest beaches in Europe, parents can relax while children build sandcastles or venture into the shallow sea. Maybe Dad will take them out on a pedalo while Mum enjoys the glorious Weymouth sunshine. Not to be missed are the traditional donkey rides and, of course, Punch & Judy. Trampolines and other games will keep them busy as well – and that’s just the beach! For those interested in nature, crabbing along the harbour’s edge will while away several child hours while you sit on the harbour wall, watching the boats go by. Or how about the family triple whammy of rockpooling at Newton’s Cove, followed by a visit to the Nothe Fort, followed by a barbeque on the Nothe peninsula, using one of the public barbeque stands. For a traditional fun thing to do for little ones, take some bread down to the Swannery (near Westham Bridge) and feed the ducks and swans. They love it! Weymouth enjoys fabulous family attractions, like the Sea Life Centre, with thousands of amazing sea creatures and Pirate Mini Golf, right next door.  There are always fairground rides in Alexandra Gardens near the beach and during events such as Weymouth Carnival in August, there are fairground rides all over the place. On the very rare occasion it rains, you can relax at the New Vic pub on the Esplanade which provides entertainment for children, often in the form of a balloon-artist or other colourful fun. The Palm House Café near Weymouth Swannery provides indoor or outdoor safe areas, with plenty of large activity toys for little ones, as well as craft workshops where the whole family can paint their own pottery to take home. There are plenty of cafes catering for families, with a few burger places and of course, the favourite – fish and chips. Or is it ice cream? Well maybe treat yourselves to both – after all, you are at the seaside! Some pubs also look after families, which is ideal if you just need to all sit together and relax over your evening meal after a hard day’s playing. For reasonable family meals in pleasant surroundings try The William Henry or The Old Rooms. Want to thrill your teenagers? How about a ride on a rib boat from Weymouth Harbourside? It takes about half an hour and won’t be forgotten for a long time to come. Wear sensible grippy shoes and hang on very tight. You will get wet!
