Stretching North West from Portland to West Bay, this 18-mile beach is predominantly a pebble beach and attached to it is an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon, which is perfect for protected bathing. The area lies at the centre of the Jurassic coast and the predominance of it has been designated as a wildlife reservation site, although boating, bathing and fishing are permitted in certain areas. It is not as commercial as other beaches in the area but rather presented as a sanctuary for visitors, one such group being the tern colony at Ferrybridge.
