REVIEW: Top 15 from 2015

2015 has been a great year for Weymouth, Portland and surrounding areas. From fantastic events and winning the Keep Britain Tidy Beach award for England to visits from multiple celebs and hosting the European Triathlon Challenge Weymouth.

1.Dorset was announced as THE best county to live in the B-Heard index.

2.The annual Dorset Pommery Seafood Festival had over 50,000 visitors this year all wanting to relax with a glass of champagne and spectate demonstrations from Mat Follas and Jack Stein.  The festival was also mentioned by CNN as one of Europe’s best food festivals.

3.Weymouth has had its share of celebrity visits in 2015 too. David Beckham made an appearance in June whilst taking his son out on a fishing trip, Terry Wogan filmed part of his Terry And Mason’s Food Trip and Nicholas Cage visited only this month!

4.Weymouth won the the coveted Keep Britain Tidy Seaside Award England for 2015 in May.

5.July it was announced that Weymouth has been selected to be a part of the Healthy High Streets initiative to increase footfall, create jobs and fill empty shops.

6.Weymouth Carnival raised over £25,000 in August with £15,000 being distributed to charity.

7.Waterfest Weymouth in September celebrated Dorset’s maritime history with the return of the awesome Aquatic Jet Pack display team and Le Marite tall ship.


8.Portland Port had a bumper season with over 20 cruise ships docking in the port in the summer.

9.Weymouth hosted the ETU European Long Distance Triathlon Championships in September with over 1000 competitors and their families stayed in the area.

10.New summer festival Out Loud had its first year with visitors and locals enjoying the 5 stages around town.

11.Weymouth’s first REAL ICE rink came to town this month opened by Richard Drax MP.

12.FEAST Weymouth, a 6-week celebration of independent eateries, was a success with locals and visitors enjoying exclusive menus and discounts throughout October and November.

13.The Royal Oak in Weymouth won CAMRA’s Best Pub Award. You can find the pub on Custom House Quay where it sells an array of specialty beer and cider.

14.Weymouth’s high street is visited by Dorset Farmers’ Market every month bringing fresh and local produce.

15.Weymouth’s New Year is mentioned as one of the top 10 places to party – Don’t forget to enter your fancy dress costume photos at for your chance to WIN prizes.
