Based right next to Chesil Beach and founded by former teacher Ellie, Chesil Creative run some fantastic craft workshops for adults and children with classes in various locations around Weymouth and Portland. From digital photography to seasonal gift making, there’s lots of choice and they even run creative parties!
Bits & Bobs
Established in 2014, Bits & Bobs are a craft shop, sewing machine repair centre, and they also run various sewing, crochet and embroidery workshops in The Shack Training Centre at the rear of the shop. Based along Portland Road in Wyke Regis, the shop stock everything you need for your project plus they sell fabric in a range of great patterns.
Situated close to the Harbourside, Bella Ceramic is a great place to visit and try your hand at pottery painting. Simply choose the item you’d like to paint, select your colours and you’re ready to go! The staff are friendly and on hand to help with inspiration or ideas and they even sell refreshments and snacks to enjoy whilst you paint.
Gone Potty have large range of pottery to choose from, with a free play area for the under 5’s and baby changing facilities. Prices start from as little as £4 and they do baby hand/footprint sessions every Tuesday morning in the centre of town, along Frederick Place.
This friendly and local business stock everything from wool, cross stitch sets to pic and mix buttons at just 1p each! The staff are on hand to help with ideas and suggestions and often have a fun display of their latest woolly projects in the window. Craftlines are based on Westham Road and only a short walk to the seafront.

Based in the centre of town on St Alban Street, Weymouth Woollies stock a great selection of yarns in every colour including Sirdar, James Brett, Woolcraft, Rico, WYS, Cygnet, and plenty of guest yarns too. They also sell a number of knitted pieces including some very cute cardigans for little ones.
So ‘n’ Sews
So ‘n’ Sews is your one stop shop for all your sewing needs, they stock a wide range of fabrics for dress making, home furnishings and craft. This family business also have a large selection of sewing accessories and haberdashery, sell sewing machines and even have curtain making service. So ‘n’ Sews are based just along Westham Road.
Mustard Seeds at St Mary’s Church
Mustard Seeds is a shop and art gallery and also provides workshop space for artists and craftspeople, both amateur and professional, whatever the ability. The shop and art gallery is usually open Monday to Thursday 10.30am – 3.30pm, Friday & Saturday 10.30am – 4pm. Everyone is welcome to come in and browse.
Situated just a stone’s throw from the harbour and Hope Square, Cove Gallery has a great collection of limited-edition prints, handmade glass, ceramic and bronze sculpture and many of the artists are Dorset based. Is the ideal place to find a unique gift but if you really can’t decide what to buy, they also do gift vouchers!
Weymouth College offer part-time craft courses and workshops, based at the Dorset Centre for the Creative Arts in Poundbury. With over 100 to choose from, there’s something for everyone.
