Best of Britain – A Romantic Getaway in Weymouth
From beautiful beaches and stunning scenery, to exciting attractions and local landmarks, Weymouth and the surrounding area is the perfect destination for a couple’s getaway.
To celebrate all that this fantastic area has to offer, Parkdean Resorts has teamed up with Wanderlust Chloe, a top UK travel blogger, to help unearth some of the most romantic attractions and activities nearby. Below are some of the amazing places Chloe and her fiancé Macca visited in and around Weymouth.
Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens
Dorset is renowned for its breathtaking coastline, thanks to its golden sands and crystal-clear waters. However, there are also plenty of places in-land where you can enjoy a romantic stroll and admire spectacular scenery, one of them being Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens.
Set in 20 acres of woodland, the garden has a unique micro-climate, meaning exotic and rare species of plants can truly thrive here. From camellias and magnolias to rhododendrons and hydrangeas, you’ll find a whole range of plants and flowers on a visit. If you try the Magnolia Walk, don’t miss the stunning views of the Jurassic Coast from the viewpoint.
Pirate Adventure Golf
If you’re a competitive couple, then a trip to Weymouth wouldn’t be complete without a game of mini golf. Located on the picturesque coastline, Pirate Adventure Golf is the perfect activity for a date-day! This fun course is filled with obstacles to overcome, such as cannons, pirate ships and treasure chests.
Langham Wine Estate
Did you know that Dorset is home to an array of incredible vineyards? And just 25 minutes from Weymouth is one of the best; Langham Wine Estate. This south-facing vineyard forms the perfect environment for ripening classic Champagne varieties, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
See thousands of grapes grow as you enjoy a tour of the estate, before heading to the Tasting Room to sample some of the award-winning wine produced here. Langham Wine Estate also serves a delicious cream tea in their Vineyard Café – the perfect place for a meal for two.
If you’re a fan of a crime drama, then you’re bound to recognise West Bay. This dramatic part of the coastline played a part in the popular ITV series Broadchurch, alongside David Tenant and Olivia Coleman. With its towering 140ft cliffs and picturesque views, it comes as no surprise why producers chose West Bay to be the backdrop for the show.
Once you’ve followed in the footsteps of TV stars, there’s so much more to do around the area. Walk hand-in-hand along the clifftop coastal route, hire a boat to explore the area by sea or simply head to the harbour for an ice cream and fish and chips!
Boat Trips and Water Sports
Weymouth is a beautiful town, and it looks even better from the water. Whether you’re an adrenaline-fuelled couple who want to jump, climb and explore during coasteering, or prefer a more relaxing boat tour, there’s something for everyone along the Jurassic Coast.
One company that offers a whole range of water sports is Jurassic Coast Activities. From kayaking and canoeing to paddle boarding and wind surfing, grab your swimming gear and head out for a day on the water.
