8 Fun Things to do with the Kids in August

August is a month for the family to take a break and enjoy the summer holidays. Weymouth is an ideal place along the Jurassic Coast to do this, not leaving you stuck for choice for you and your kids to keep entertained… Here’s a list of fun things to do for the kids to enjoy!


With 2017 themes including  Finding Dory & Nemo, Kung Fu Panda, King Kong, Jurassic Giants & Madagascar, Sandworld is a fascinating place to visit for all the family where the efforts of the artists can be admired by you and the kids. You have the chance to learn how to create your own mini masterpiece in the giant undercover sandpit. There’s always a helpful member of staff and tools at hand to help teach you some basic techniques. Suitable for all ages and abilities.

Weymouth Beach Donkeys

A rarity that you won’t find in every seaside town and a perfect opportunity for the kids to ride a beach donkey, leaving them with an unforgettable experience. Be sure to get a few pictures of the smile on their faces!

Weymouth Carnival

If you are visiting on or before Wednesday 16th August, you’ll struggle to miss the carnival! With multiple events happening throughout the day for all the family to enjoy from a procession to the RAF Red Arrows display, it’s certainly something to make a day of. Watch Punch & Judy

Get your kids down to the beach to watch the unique puppet display of Punch & Judy for a small fee. Showings are every day at 12pm and 2pm. They’ll be laughing!

Lodmoor Country Park

Lodmoor Country Park is full of walking routes, rides, slides, water zorbing, cafes, you name it… Hours of fun is to be spent here for the kids as well as yourselves.

Sea Life Centre

An astonishing aquarium which is ideal for the whole family, Weymouth Sea Life Centre has various under water animals that will interest all. Rides, shows and play areas included! Weymouth Sea Life Centre are welcoming the CBeebies Octonauts until August 28th. The much anticipated Octo-Glow Explorers event will offer children and their families the chance to join CBeebies’ most intrepid ocean explorers on a special mission to uncover the secret world of glow in the dark sea creatures.

Go to the beach

You can either visit our beautiful Weymouth beach, voted No.1 best beach in the UK on TripAdvisor or visit a smaller, quieter alternative being Sandsfoot beach. The kids can have hours of fun at the beach building sand castles and swimming all day long and you don’t have to spend a penny!

Picnic at the Nothe Gardens

The Nothe Gardens is ideal for the family. With an unbeatable view of the bay and lots of room for the kids to run around, be sure to bring a picnic and even have a game of football (or whatever takes your fancy!). While you’re there you can visit the Nothe Fort, used to defend Weymouth in the war which is still running as a museum.
