The Weymouth BID has been hosting great visitor events since its launch in 2013. This Easter the BID will be holding a FREE Easter Holiday event, ‘Weymouth’s Jurassic Egg Hunt & Roarsome Dino Day!’
The We Are Weymouth website attracted over 1.2 million page views in 2016 and during January and February 2017 the website traffic is already up by an additional 45%. One of the main aims of the Weymouth BID is to attract more people into Weymouth during the shoulder months and by hosting great events and a reason to visit it a great way to do this. Events help to encourage visitors to stay in the town longer and increase spend.
The Jurassic Egg Hunt and Roarsome Dino Day are new events organised by the Weymouth BID for 2017 who have taken all the successful elements from the Pirate events held in previous years and reinvented the Easter event into a more traditional “egg” themed programme, building on the partnership with the Jurassic Coast Trust.
Between Saturday 8th & Sunday 23rd April, young explorers can follow a trail of clues around Weymouth town to find ‘Jurassic Dino Eggs’ and solve a riddle to discover where a very rare ‘T-Rex Egg’ has been hidden. Entrants need to complete and return their trail form by Monday 24th April to be in with a chance of winning a bag full of Easter goodies! Retailers will be taking part by displaying a dinosaur egg and clue amongst their products.
On the Saturday 15th April, Weymouth will host its first ‘Roarsome Dino Day’, with an eggciting mix of dinosaur related fun activities that will keep young explorers busy all day. The FREE Fun will start at 11am and continue until 3.30pm with events such as A Dino Passport Quest, Dino Games with Wessex FM, Dino Mask Making, Dino Balloon Modeller & Magician, Dino Mask Parade and a Dino Roar Competition. The Wessex FM Roadshow will also be in town.
Nigel Reed, Manager of the Weymouth BID said “One of the most exciting elements for families to encounter that day will be when they meet face to face with T-Rex Junior! Straight from Jurassic Park, this walking, eating, roaring Dino, who will thrill and, possibly, intrigue quite a few young explorers. T-Rex Junior has been supplied by The Twins FX who are based in Wareham and who supply many special effects to the Weymouth Pavilion Pantos and shows.” More info at www.thetwinsfx.com
Weymouth Businesses can get involved with the event by encouraging staff to join in with the Roarsome Dino Theme on Saturday 15th by dressing up as Prehistoric Cave Men & Women or a classic Explorer look, pith helmets and shorts at the ready! There will be a £50 prize for the business with the ‘Best Dressed’ staff on 15th April.
