Sandworld, Cycling and step aboard the Saucy Sally!
Every week over the summer we’ll be bringing you all best things to do, see and enjoy in Weymouth. If you’re planning a visit down here on the Jurassic Coast, there’ll always be plenty of stuff going on to make it a holiday to remember.
SandWorld is an amazing place featuring sand sculptures by some of the world’s foremost sculptors, made from 2000 tonnes of sand. The 2015 Sand Sculpture Festival runs until 1st November. To create these beautiful sculptures – made from only sand and water – the sand grains need to have a slight angle to them, and apparently Weymouth sand is ideal. So once you’ve seen what the professionals get up to at SandWorld, you can pop along to the beach and have a go yourself. It could be a whole new career!
Once they’ve finished on the beach, no doubt the kids will be up for a brand new swashbuckling adventure with Seadog Billy, Buccaneer Becky and Captain Filibuster as they once again lead the crew of the Saucy Sally out onto the high seas in Pirates of the Pavilion. See our event for details.
For a more mellow day, how about a bike trip to Portland and back. There are 24 miles of traffic-free cycling routes around Weymouth and Portland. The National cycle network (NCN) route 26, Portland to Weymouth, is only four miles and traffic-free throughout. Halfway there you can stop and take in the fabulous Chesil Beach Centre with its lovely little Taste Café. And maybe halfway back as well.
