Sand, Scallywags and Sounds: The weather didn’t rain on anyone’s parade over the weekend as the crowds turned out to a host of Bank Holiday events in Weymouth
Sandworld’s opening of the new Life on Earth Exhibition on the 26th was a great success and was said to be the busiest day the attraction had seen ever! The new sculptures take you across the world to celebrate David Attenborough’s 90th birthday this year. The attraction is now open until later in the year – so don’t miss out on seeing these incredible sights.
Scallywags Saturday brought some pirate fun to Weymouth on Saturday and even though the forecast was rain, visitors and locals still gathered to have fun. Real pirates were spotted in the town’s streets down low and up high! Face painting and other activities took place on board the Tall Ship Pelican whilst others started the Scallywags Pirate Treasure Trail (26th March – 10th April) and tried their luck at finding the treasure on the beach. Afternoon activities were moved into the dry thanks to the Weymouth Pavilion.
Budding pirates tried to walk the plank and joined in with Captain Bluster’s Pirate Show as well as being entertained by the Pavilion’s own Pirates of the Pavilion. Winner of the Best Dressed Pirate Business was the Bear Shop on St Thomas Street who had also dressed up their teddies in true Buccaneer style too! See the full album of pictures on our Facebook.
