Weymouth entertainment is rightly famous. From free live bands in pubs to classical concerts, Punch & Judy shows and laser lightshows it’s all here.
Almost everywhere you turn, Weymouth entertainment is second to none. From live bands in the pubs to classical music concerts in the churches; from star-studded shows at Weymouth Pavilion to historical re-enactments in the streets – you’ll be spoilt for choice.
If you go shopping in Weymouth’s town centre, leave plenty of time to admire the human statues or dance to the bands playing in the street. Children will be delighted by the balloon sculptures made right in front of their eyes, and if you can get them to sit on the beach long enough they’ll be enthralled by that very traditional entertainment – a Punch and Judy show!
For a more cultured experience, you can enjoy a lunchtime concert of chamber music in St Mary’s Church, in Weymouth town centre. Or you can get absorbed by some drama at Weymouth College’s Bay Theatre.
Fancy some classical stage performance? Come and experience live-in-real-time ballet performances or Shakespeare plays on the big screens at Weymouth Cineworld.
It’s quite likely you’ll be in Weymouth while there is a music festival going on. So come and enjoy free outdoor performances at the Wessex Folk Festival or the Fayre in the Square on the Old Harbour. Or perhaps you’ll see the Bank Holiday ‘Tea on the Quay’ music festival on the town side of the Harbour. Or there could even be an outdoor stage on the beach. Generally speaking, live music is ‘free-to-see’ in Weymouth, with the exception of small charges for some clubs, and of course, shows and concerts. Sometimes pubs even put on ‘fundraisers’ where they have bands, one after another, all day and into the night! Check out the local gig guide for details.
Watch the sun going down by the Harbour, admiring the colourfully lit Town Bridge, or wander along the Esplanade, late at night and see the lasers lightshow dancing on the sea. Wherever you are, there’ll be live music emanating from pubs, clubs and bars. With so much competition, Weymouth’s musicians are honed to a point of excellence, and have often done their world tours or worked with the Great and the Good, and so are truly professional. You know you’re in good hands, so let your hair down and dance the night away!
